How it worked
For each alley a resident ‘Champion’ was identified as the lead for their alley. Each Champion linked with local residents in their alley to help them put forward their ideas for improving their alley. A panel consisting of residents and others worked with each group on these ideas and agreed the funding and support that each group needed. Streets ahead ran a series of practical workshops in the alleys to support the groups, including plant and food growing workshops and worked with Middlesbrough Council staff to improve levels of recycling. In addition to regular ‘get-togethers’ for group members to share good news stories and tips, Streets Ahead also held a ‘Great Alley’ competition and celebration event inviting all participants in the area when the makeover work was completed. |
