Street Ahead for Information organises a wide range of back alley makeover projects funded from a variety of sources.

These initiatives offer members of all sectors of the community the ability to make significant, positive and long term and sustainable changes to their area.

Our Back Alley Projects: 

• Make stronger communities – with more active citizens working together to tackle their problems.
• Achieve healthier and more active people and communities.
• Improve the Environment.

How these projects work

Many of the ideas for back alley makeover projects originate with residents. As part of our community liaison activity we often get ideas for alley refurbishment form residents. 
A panel consisting of residents and others meet regularly to discuss ideas that have come forward to talk about these ideas and agreed the funding and support that each group needed.

Streets Ahead has also run a programme of practical workshops in the area, including plant and food growing workshops and have worked with Middlesbrough Council staff to improve levels of recycling.

In addition to regular ‘get-togethers’ for group members to share good news stories and tips, Streets Ahead has also held competition and celebration events to advertise the alley makeover projects.​
