A History of Streets Ahead
Streets Ahead started operations in 2003 supported by a three-year European Union grant. Opened by the then Mayor of Middlesbrough, Ray Mallon, Streets Ahead ran successfully during the period of the grant. New management under Kim May was brought in during 2006 to manage and run the organisation. Since then funding has been self generated mainly through bid applications. Streets Ahead is not part of Middlesbrough Council so receives no direct subventions from Council funds. Ray Mallon was the guest of honour at the 10 year celebration of the organisation held at Streets Ahead in 2013.
How Streets Ahead Helps the Community
Supporting our Community and Helping its Residents
Streets Ahead provides a host of valuable local services for residents and for local businesses, aimed at improving our community and environment and making residents lives better. It is the areas one-stop-shop for local residents.
These are some of the areas where we help: Supporting vulnerable residents, Crime prevention, Community cohesion and activities, Office, IT and meeting room facilities, Environmental protection, advice on services available to residents.
Streets Ahead is a key player in local, regional and national partnerships that support our community. We support, run or take part in virtually every community activity in Gresham. Including Gresham in Bloom, the Back-Alley Projects, Beat surgeries, and much more.
Community Protection is a vital part of our work. A Streets Ahead run project supports residents in reporting antisocial behaviour in their community and getting prompt and efficient action taken by the Police or other local services. We work closely with the Police, Wardens and PCSOs
How is Streets Ahead Funded?
